There is no universal consensus about the best method, nor are there accepted standards for the conceptual modeling of data warehouses. Only few conceptual models have formally described methods how to get these models. Therefore, problems arise when in a particular data warehousing project, an appropriate development approach, and a corresponding method for the requirements elicitation, should be chosen and applied. Sometimes it is also necessary not only to use the existing methods, but also to provide new methods that are usable in particular development situations. Process Reference Model for Data Warehouse Development - A Consensusoriented Approach
IS literature provides a variety of Data Warehouse development methodologies focussing on technical issues, for instance the automatical generation of Data Warehouse or OLAP schemata from conceptual graphical models or the materialization of views. On the other hand, we can observe a growing influence of conceptual modelling in the move of general IS development which is specifically addressing...
متن کاملTracing conceptual models' evolution in data warehouses by using the model driven architecture
Developing a data warehouse is an ongoing task where new requirements are constantly being added. A widely accepted approach for developing data warehouses is the hybrid approach, where requirements and data sources must be accommodated to a reconciliated data warehouse model. During this process, relationships between conceptual elements specified by user requirements and those supplied by the...
متن کاملData warehouse schemas: a software engineering approach towards an efficient modeling of complex, dynamic conceptual schemas
In contrast to most traditional information systems which are based on a static, consistent view of transactional data, a data warehouse comprises several stages of data integration and data aggregation. Hence, the conceptual design of data warehouses addresses not only data structures, but also derivation paths. Integration and aggregation paths result in highly complex schemas and consistent ...
متن کاملThe optimal warehouse capacity: A queuing-based fuzzy programming approach
Among the various existing models for the warehousing management, the simultaneous use of private and public warehouses is as the most well-known one. The purpose of this article is to develop a queuing theory-based model for determining the optimal capacity of private warehouse in order to minimize the total corresponding costs. In the proposed model, the available space and budget to create a...
متن کاملA Process Data Warehouse for Tracing and Reuse of Engineering Design Processes
The design and development processes of complex technical systems are of crucial importance to the competitiveness of an enterprise. These processes are characterised by high creativity and strong non-deterministic dynamics. Traditional information science methods, however, are intended for more deterministic work processes. They cannot be effectively applied to support creative activities like...
